Spirit History and Lore[]
Little Red Riding Hood is the subject of a fairy tale from European folklore. The first published account of Little Red Riding was done by the Frenchman Charles Perrault. The story is one that we all should be familiar with. Red, along with her trademark hood, is walking through the woods on her way to her grandmother's house. She is planning to deliver food to her sick grandmother when the Big Bad Wolf approaches her and asks where is going. She foolishly tells him where she is headed, and the wolf suggests she stop and pick some flowers for grandma. The wolf then gains entry to grandma's house by impersonating Red Riding Hood and proceeds to swallow her whole. The wolf, now disguised as the grandma, waits for Red Riding Hood in grandma's bed. When Red arrives, she notices something is a little off about grandma, but never quite puts the pieces together in time and gets gobbled up by the wolf as well. Over the years, there have been many variations of the story, some of which feature Red Riding Hood escaping the wolf's clutches or being saved by a hunter or lumberjack.
